Consider the Immediate Risks of Abortion
Abortion is a surgical procedure that can place women at a significant risk for physical, emotional, and spiritual complications. It is a permanent decision with unexpected consequences. It's important you are fully informed before make a major decision that will affect your life forever. Many women who have experienced abortion say they wish they were told the facts about abortion prior to making their decision or that they felt pressure to think abortion was their only option.
Consider the risks.

Heavy Bleeding
Some bleeding after an abortion is normal. However, if the cervix is torn or the uterus is punctured there is a risk of heavy bleeding. This is known as hemorrhaging. If this happens, a blood transfusion may be required.

Infection
There may be a risk of infection during an abortion from the insertion of medical instruments into the uterus or from fetal parts that could be mistakenly left inside. This is known as an incomplete abortion. These types of infections may require antibiotics or may result in the need for a surgical procedure.

Psychological Impact
Following abortion, many women experience an initial relief. The crisis is over, and life can proceed as normal. But for other women, the crisis is not over. There is evidence that abortion is associated with a decrease in long-term emotional, physical health and overall well-being. Abortion significantly increases risks for clinical depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol use, post-traumatic stress disorder, suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Damage to the Organs
During a surgical abortion, the cervix and/or uterus may be cut, torn or punctured by abortion instruments. This may cause hemorrhaging which would require surgical repair. Abortion instruments may cause permanent scaring of the uterine lining. If complications occur, major surgery may be required, including the removal of the uterus, known as a hysterectomy.
